FAQs – Compliance & RAWS
Questions and answers addressing common inquiries about a product, service, or topic
What is the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS)?
RAWS is a government scheme that allows approved workshops to import and modify used vehicles not originally built to comply with Australian Design Rules (ADRs). These vehicles must be made roadworthy and compliant before they can be registered for use in Australia.
Who can apply for RAWS approval?
Only workshops registered under the Road Vehicle Standards Act (RVSA) can apply. Applicants must submit through the ROVER portal and meet strict eligibility criteria, including workshop capability, compliance officer nomination, and Quality Assurance Procedure (QAP) development.
What types of vehicles can be processed under RAWS?
Only used vehicles under 10 years old that are listed on the SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles Scheme) register can be imported and modified under RAWS.
What is ROVER?
ROVER is the Department of Infrastructure’s online portal for managing all applications and communications related to RAWS, SEVS, and other vehicle certification matters. It is used for lodging applications, uploading compliance evidence, and tracking approvals.
What is a Model Report, and why is it important?
A Model Report is a technical document that outlines how a specific vehicle model complies with relevant ADRs. It serves as a blueprint for modifications. RAWS workshops must follow it exactly and provide photographic and documentary evidence of compliance.
