ADR REFERENCE GUIDE

ADR 4 and ADR 5: Seatbelts and Anchorages

The restraint assembly and the structure that anchors it raise different engineering questions.

Check applicability first

The vehicle category, build information, approval pathway and proposed configuration need to be identified before selecting an applicable edition. Use the official catalogue and legislation; the latest published edition is not automatically the right edition for every existing vehicle.

Separate the restraint and anchorage questions

ADR 4 addresses seatbelts; ADR 5 addresses anchorages for seatbelts. A belt assembly record does not by itself establish the suitability of an altered mounting arrangement or supporting structure. Identify the seat, restraint and anchorage configuration together.

Record what changed

Send photos, component identification and the vehicle details. Note any changed seats, mounting locations, brackets, reinforcement or body structure, and provide relevant drawings or previous records. This gives the initial review a defined configuration rather than a general description such as “new seats”.

Common questions

A component record and an installation or structural assessment answer different questions. The particular arrangement needs review.

Tell us what you need

Send the vehicle make, model and year or range, the component details, or a short engineering brief. If you are unsure about the technical pathway, tell us the outcome you want.
