Why obtain a Component Type Approval?
A CTA is an optional way to establish a component’s compliance evidence for use in relevant Vehicle Type Approval or Model Report applications. It can give vehicle manufacturers and report developers an approved component reference rather than developing the same component evidence independently for each program.
Who is it for?
Manufacturers and suppliers of identifiable road vehicle components or assemblies intended for use in vehicle manufacture or work under an approved Model Report. The component type, versions and intended applications must be defined, alongside access to design, manufacturing and quality information.
What Aries Tech delivers
We establish the component scope and applicable requirements; review and organise existing test evidence; create the technical and quality documentation; arrange additional engineering or testing where required; prepare and submit the CTA application; and manage technical RFIs.
What a CTA covers
The approval concerns the specified component type and standards within its scope. Complete-vehicle compliance and the effects of the actual installation remain separate questions. We identify those interfaces when planning the component project.
Your project, managed through submission
We establish the scope, organise the engineering and external inputs, create the documents and submit under your authority. We manage the agreed technical responses through assessment.
Common questions
Is CTA mandatory for every road vehicle component?
No. CTA is an optional approval route. We establish whether it is useful for your component and the vehicle applications in which it will be used.
Will CTA approve every installation?
No. Its scope covers the defined component evidence. The vehicle application and installation effects still need to be addressed.
