Check applicability first
The vehicle category, build information, approval pathway and proposed configuration need to be identified before selecting an applicable edition. Use the official catalogue and legislation; the latest published edition is not automatically the right edition for every existing vehicle.
A starting point, not the whole compliance scope
ADR 42 is a general safety standard. It should be considered alongside other relevant ADRs rather than used as a replacement for system-specific requirements. The actual topic and vehicle configuration determine which provisions need attention.
Make the enquiry specific
Describe the item being added, removed or changed, its location and intended function. Vehicle photographs and a simple sketch often communicate the issue more clearly than a broad request for an “ADR certificate”. If the question concerns a component, include the product identification and proposed mounting arrangement.
Common questions
Does an ADR 42 review cover every vehicle system?
No. A defined review has a defined scope, and other applicable standards may address the affected systems.
